That was another part of the Friday night routine: I always swiped a flaskful of Ma’s bourbon.
This is Quinn, an underage alcoholic who likes to party with his friends and drinks a lot. He gets his supply by lying to his mother about his habits of theft and the shopkeeper about his age.

..he looked over at me and nodded. And I knew he was saying thank you. Not because I’d shown up to watch him, but because I had shown up to watch him he was playing harder—and he was loving it.
I shook his shoulder and felt bad it was the only game I’d made it to all season. I wanted to be the guy who showed up, not the one who didn’t.
Quinn is a responsible big brother who watches over him, shows up to support his interests, and gives him good advice. He cares for and loves his brother.
