The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street Theme: Fear and suspicion are destructive
In The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street by Rod Serling, one of the main themes is Fear can lead to Chaos. One of the many ways this proves it is when Charlie shot Pete Van Horn out of fear and everyone starts panicking. Since they were already scared because of a potential monster on the loose this made Charlie scared and do what he was thinking when seeing the shadow and it ended Pete's life. Another way that this is one of the main themes is when Steve grabs Charlie and Charlie's light breaks injuring Charlie from the flying shards coming at him from the glass. This proves it because Steve pushes Charlie, so Steve puts his hands on Charlie and making his light break because of it. Another reason why this theme fits the story is when everyone starts blaming each other they start panicking and they start breaking things and hurting each other. This then leads them to turning on each other and leading to chaos. These reasons I have provided you are the main reasons why I think Fear can lead to chaos is one of the main themes on The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street .
