They both die at the end part 4
Storyboard Text
- In the travel arena, they decide to participate in jumping off a waterfall. The three have a lot of fun. After they finish off at the travel arena, Rufus receives a call from Malcolm and Tagoe saying they were reals\sed from custody. Rufus tells them to bring Aimee and meet him at the Graveyard, which is a club for Deckers.
- They arrive at the graveyard at 5:01. While they wait for the Plutos to arrive, Lidia, Mateo, and Rufus dance for a while until Rufus finally convinces Mateo to karaoke with him. Mateo and Rufus sing along to "American Pie".
- After the karaoke, the Plutos show up. But unfortunately that's not the only people who show up. Peck shows up with his gang and tries to shoot Rufus. Aimee talks Peck out of it which causes enough time for Mateo to cause commotion which makes him drop his gun. After this Mateo and Rufus rush out of the Graveyard and decide to go back to Rufus's apartment.
- Mateo and Rufus reach Mateo's apartment at 7:17. The two talk for a while and then decide to take a nap.
- Rufus was awoken to smoke and when he walked into the kitchen their were flames everywhere. Mateo wanted to make tea for both of them but unfortunately the stove exploded and caught on fire. When the paramedics came they began to pull out a bodybag and Rufus became hysterical and lied saying he wasn't a Decker and needed to be rushed to the hospital. Sadly, they ignored Rufus and took Rufus to the hospital.
- When Rufus is brought to the hospital, he refuses to get treatment and instead goes to visit Mateo's dad. Rufus leaves a note that says what they did on their last day and how Mateo finally got to get out of his comfort zone and have fun. This book ends with Rufus on his way to the park to spend his few hours left and when he crosses the street he doesn't look both ways. I feel that this ending can be inturpreted in many different ways and that's why I love the ending.
