  • “Wow. I am hungry. Teaching about kids and their developmental stages makes me want a burger real bad.” -Piaget
  • Slide: 2
  • “I know what you mean, look at all the kids in front of us having their parents help them order. It is such an educational thing to witness, and it is nice that parents are helping their kids learn how to order for when they become more independent and grow personally, which is a great example of scaffolding!”- Vygotsky
  • “I agree, but also look at the kids who are trying to order by themselves! They are clearly in a concrete operational stage and learning by their own experience and interpretations from their parents. Just fascinating seeing it in real life.”
  • **AT MCDONALDS**
  • Slide: 3
  • Yes of course, that will be $8.50.”
  • “Hello, can I get a big mac meal with a coke.”
  • **Piaget hands over the money and walks away to sit down***
  • Slide: 4
  • Sure thing, it'll be 8:50 as well.
  • “Hi, yes can I also get a big mac meal but with a sprite? My friend Jean influenced me! His meal sounded so good and I overheard some others as well who ordered this too. I guess you can say I was influenced by social interaction ha ha!”
  • Slide: 5
  • “Oh shoot, they didn’t give me any sauces. I do not see them anywhere. What should I do?”
  • “You can ask the parents at the table behind us, that is what I would do in this case.”
  • “Hmm okay, I think I will try to figure it out on my own once more.”
  • ** Their food arrives and they are eating and Jean Piaget finds the sauce he wants as well**
  • Slide: 6
  • : “You know Jean, even though I strongly believe that kids need to learn socially through the environment from their parents and peers, as well as be culturally influenced, we do have great taste when it comes to food!”
  • “Lev, I agree this is great! In a way it was like we were our own explorers because we took a chance on a meal we have never had before. I strongly believe that next time we come here anything else we get will be equally as yummy! Or maybe I am simply creating a schema for McDonalds!!”
  • Slide: 7
  • Going back to my take on the zone of proximal development, we were able to see here in McDonald’s the two different forms of development and which ones are being portrayed on a day to day basis now. However, either way it shows the beauty of development no matter how you grow up”.
  • “You know one last thing Jean, in my lecture today I touched base on the whole idea of strong interactions with our peers inevitably driving our development and it is something that I am so passionate about and I think that it really can be applied to both of us right now as well. For instance, we both saw all the kids in here with their parents and despite the characteristics or behaviors of their parents, their kids either tried to order by themselves, or had help from their parents.
  • Slide: 8
  • “Lev, you are so right! I think the point you were making is essentially that no matter how you are developing for instance through the concrete operational stage, the end result is being confident in yourself and having the ability to do things for ourselves whether it was our own independent nature which brought this out or from the help of all social factors around us”.
  • **They get ready to leave and walk outside after their meal**
  • Slide: 9
  • “Yes, yes, I agree. Perhaps that new movie Inside Out. I hear it is very fascinating.”
  • “This was super great Jean, maybe next time we can go see a movie.”
  • Slide: 10
  • “Oh yes I have seen the trailers, I also had my eye on the Lion King. I guess we will decide when it comes down to it. Have a great day Jean!
  • “Until next time Lev.”
