- Your father was murdered and the killer is still at large which is causing the plague.

- What have I done!?
- That man you killed on the road was your father and your wife Jocasta is your mother.
- There is a plague on the city of Thebes, Oedipus' subjects are at his palace asking him for help.
- Falling Action
- Oedipus asks Tiresias for help and he tells Oedipus that the plague is caused by the murderer of the previous king going unpunished.
- Conclusion
- Please banish me from Thebes! I must pay for the horrible things I have done!
- Oedipus learns that he was the one who had murdered his father and that his wife Jocasta was actually his mother.
- Background information
- Answer my riddle or die!
- Jocasta hangs herself in her bedroom and after finding her body, Oedipus stabs his eyes and blinds himself.

- Oedipus asks Creon to give Jocasta a proper funeral and exile him from Thebes.
- As a baby, Oedipus was left to die by his parents until he was rescued by a servant and brought to Polybus and Merope who raised him. He went back to the city of Thebes where he was born and ended up saving the city from the sphinx by answering the riddle.
