  • Hello, my name is Jay Gould and i'm a stockbroker off of Wall street. I buy stock in railways!

  • Daniel and Jim I need you two to issue fraudulent shares of Erie railroad so we can trap Vanderbilt!
  • Yes sir!
  • Gould is now president of Erie Railroads. His partners are Daniel Drew and Jim Fisk who are both financiers. He specifically made them his partners so they could keep Erie railroad out of Vanderbilt's hands. During what is now known as the "Erie War" Gould would tell Drew and Fisk to issue fraudulent shares of Erie railroad in hopes of Vanderbilt purchasing large quantities

  • This is Boss Tweed of Tammy Hill. He was made director of Erie railroad and in return he would have to manipulate legislation to favor Gould and his company. 
  • Gould and his partner Fisk attempted to "corner the gold market" in hopes that the increase of gold would also increase the price of wheat. This would cause a large amount of bread to be shipped on his railroad lines. As the result of this gold scheme Wall Street panicked as the price of gold increased. Thanks to the United States treasury who quickly figured out Gould's scheme the prices went down due to them selling gold on the market.

  • Hahaha I am now in control of Missouri Pacific Railroad, Western Union Telegraph Company, and I assists in elevated trains in New York City!!!
  • As a result of Gould expanding Erie railroad the debt increased so due to this he was forced out of the company. However by the end of his career he was in control of Missouri Pacific Railroad, Western Union Telegraph Company, and assists in elevated trains in New York City.
  • Gould died in 1892 and was worth around $77 million. The remaining of his fortune went entirely to his family. He is still known today as a manipulative jerk.
