- haden edwards was an empresario. he moved into texas with stephen F austin. haden edwards received his empresario contract from the government in 1825. he created his own colony near Nacogdoches. the contract also gave him permission settle about 800 families

- edwards finds that there are some mexican familles. anglo settlers and cherokeehad lived on his land for more than 100 years. they had become known as the old settlers edwards.the contract requiredhim to respect property right of all settlerwho lived there. when he arrived he demandedthat the peopleliving there wouldhave to pay him extra money

- The old settlers complained to the Mexican government, and the old settlers complained to the Mexican government, and the the Mexican government sided with them.In October 1826 the Mexican government canceled Edward’s contract because they saying that he was not fallowing the rulesThe Mexican government replaced Edward’s son-in-law with a new leader.

On December 21, 1826, they wrote the Fredonian Declaration of Independence.

- Tejanos and Anglo settlers did not like the Fredonian Rebellion.Stephen F. Austin, who supported the Mexican government’s decision, gathered troops to fight Edwards.1n 1827 the fredonian leaned that mexican troops and stephen F Austin troops are coming the rebel including edwards ran away.The Republic of Fredonia collapsed. The Fredonian Rebellion was short – but its effect was great. It was the first event leading to the Texas Revolution.
