  • A biosphere reserve is divided into 3 interlinked zones :- core zone (innermost and strictly prohibited area which no humans are allowed) , Buffer zone (middle zone thats surrounds the core and is used for activities relating to scientific research, training and education) , Transition zone (Outermost zone surrounding the buffer zone and is used for non-destructive human activities including agriculture, housing for tribal people and tourism
  • The government of India has established 18 biosphere reserves. They often include one or more national parks or wildlife sanctuaries within it; Some important reserves are in :- Tamil Nadu and in West Bengal
  • How many biosphere reserves are there in India?
  • National parks are area that are strictly reserved to preserve biodiversity , landscape and history of that region, All development activities are prohibited. People can only enter the buffer zone. There are around 103 national parks in India. Examples :- Ranthambore national park, Kanha national park and Kaziranga park.
  • Wildlife Sanctuaries preserve wildlife in their natural surroundings. It helps to educate people about the conservation techniques involved and people are allowed accompanied by forest officials. Some activities are prohibited. Examples :- Dandeli Wildlife, Chinnar wildlife santuary, Ranganathittu Bird Santuary
  • Botanical gardens are places where a large number of plants are grown and labelled with their common and scientific names along with their varied uses. Zoological parks or zoos are parks where animals are kept in close or open confinements for public exhibition. Zoos provide information about the different species of plants and animals.
