- There are multiple types of diabetes, including type 1, 2 and 3, and they are treated differently. One way is through providing the body with insulin, which helps turn food into energy, another way is through a special diet.

- Diabetes is a health condition that makes it hard to convert food into energy
- I have type one Diabetes
- Jason became surprised when Zach was called up front to talk to the class
- We even have astudent in our class who is comfortable talking about their experiences with diabetes. Zach, will you come up front?”
- Jason listened to Zach, thinking about how hard his life must be living with this disease.
- When I was 3, I went to the doctor because I was sick, and they told me I had diabetes.
- Ever since that, I’ve had to watch what I eat or I could get really sick again.
- Zach felt scared talking about his insulin pump, as he’s been bullied about it in the past.
- When it beeps, my glucose level is low, so I need to go drink an apple juice. Sometimes, it gets too high after lunch and it will beep again. I have to go to the nurse while I give myself more insulin
- This little box on my waist is my insulin pump, it helps me eat more food and not get sick.
- Jason now realizes why Zach had left and feels bad for the things he said to Zach. He realized that he did it so he didn’t get sick. Jason made it a point to apologize to Zach about his comments.
- We now know what Zach has to do everyday to stay healthy.
- As we can see, diabetes affects how someone lives, and it makes it hard to do the things that we all do everyday.
