  • Siddhartha was born during 500 BCE in Nepal. He grew up as a Hindu Prince and his father was a king. He lived a life of wealth and luxury and had all that he wanted.
  • I haven't eaten in 3 years, I am going to die! this is not a way to live!!!
  • Siddhartha’s father shielded him from everything unpleasant because he did not want Siddhartha to become a Holy Man (Spiritual Leader). The King wanted him to become a wise and brave king. Siddhartha’s father also went to a fortune teller that his son was going to become a spiritual leader or a King in the footsteps of his father
  • I need to help this people by reaching enlightenment.
  • His first ride, he saw a man with no teeth and bent man with a walking stick. The next time, he saw a man that shrunk from a horrible disease. Lastly, he saw a dead man. He realized that he too, can suffer from all of those things. So he started to search for enlightenment to help these people.
  • He followed the ascetics for a couple of years and then realized that it was no use and he was going to die soon. He was extremely skinny and sick and thought that this was not a way to live and it didn’t help with anything. He believed in meditating and he left the ascetics and meditated by a tree for a long time with the Hindu gurus.
  • He meditated for 49 days underneath a tree and then got his name Buddha and reached enlightenment. He helped all the people from suffering and saved many people who decided to follow him.
  • People that were tired of the caste system and were suffering started following him and then most of them became missionaries that traveled all around the world to try to spread the beliefs of Buddhism. Lots of people started following him in India because they were tired of the violence, suffering, the unfairness, and especially the caste system.
