  • This is a reminder of Hammurabi's code.
  • We better follow the laws or else we are punished and it may cost us a lifetime!
  • In ancient Mesopotamia, the Hammurabi's code was a set of 282 laws. It was the oldest set of laws. They followed "an eye for an eye" as a punishment, which means that people should be punished according to the way which they offended. Mesopotamians put out a 7-feet tall steel carving to remind people about Hammurabi's code.

  • Ancient Mesopotamia didn't have a lot of natural resources. So, Mesopotamians started trading goods with other countries. They used the barter system. Mesopotamians relied on their agriculture for barter deals. They mainly traded with Egypt and Pakistan. After a while, they started making trade routes that were traveled by caravans. They used wheels, another one of their inventions, and animals to carry large amount of goods. Therefore, Mesopotamians made a living mainly by trading goods.

  • Mesopotamians had to follow a social pyramid structure. The highest rank was the King because he ruled all the people. They had to be respected and listened to at all times. Then, came the Priests and Priestesses because they could talk to the Gods. Next, came the Merchants and Craftsmen because they were the ones to trade and make money. Lastly, came the slaves who served everyone.
