- The United Union and the Diamond industry have decided to instate a process called the Kimberly process. This process is an International trade agreement, a way to regulate diamond trading and prevent illegitimate diamonds from entering the market.
- In 2002, the Kimberley Process was introduced, requiring government licenses for jewelers, mines, and exporters in central Africa. Diamonds had to be checked for blood diamonds and shipped with a tamper-proof Kimberley Process certificate to prove they were legitimate.

- The United States is one of the world’s largest consumers of diamonds. American companies and consumers can unknowingly contribute to conflicts abroad by purchasing diamonds that fund violence. The U.S. also plays a role in enforcing international trade laws, such as the Kimberley Process, making it responsible for helping prevent blood diamonds from entering the global market.
