- Throughout the novel, we see Charlie trying to fit in and make friends. Charlie gets a girlfriend Mary Elizabeth, and is struggling to open up and be inclusive of not only her feelings, but trying to get his own feelings out. He says,“I asked my sister what I should do, and she said the best thing to do is be honest about my feelings.” II interpreted the squirrel as him still not being able to grasp the concept that he is excepted and people care about him and his feelings. Charlie ends up, expressing his feelings, and Mary Elizabeth demonstrates being tolerable, she excepts his feelings and takes everything well.

- The perks of being a wallflower is conflict is when Patrick and Brad, who are secretly in love, have a fight, and Charlie Simpson to Venice friend. There’s a pivotal moment, or Charlie regret regains his friendship, but also said to complete his past traumas and emotional struggles. I destroy progress of the flashbacks and emotional distress become more prominent. It’s a powerful turning point for Charlie’s character development.

- Charlie is finally with the girl of his dreams, Sam. He starts to get upset when Sam tries to get sexual with him. Sam says, “It’s okay that you’re not ready,” she said. She was being really nice to me, but I was just feeling so bad.” I think this a good example of showing how one is being inclusive of others feelings. She cares a lot about Charlie and seeing him so upset made her want to console and hear what he had to say. Although, she didn’t exactly know what was wrong she didn’t pressure him to do anything. We later find out of the sexual abuse he encountered with his Aunt Helen which is causing him to have a block mentally with sexual things.
