- The central business district (CBD) is where a large amount of businesses are located.Houses and apartments are less common in the CBD and tend to be more prevalent outside of it. An example of CBD business, retail, culture, restaurants, etc.
- tenements
- An outlying district of a city especially residential ones. An example of a suburb is a series of gated communities outside of a large city. The area on the periphery of a city or large town.
- new urbanism
- An area of open land around a city, on which building is restricted. The purpose of Greenbelt are to limit urban sprawl by maintainting open land.
- Rural
- Tenements are apartments, typically meeting minimum standards for sanitation. They were first built to house the waves of immigrants in the 1840s-1850s .

- New Urbanism are reforms that make walk able neighborhoods with diverse homes and jobs. In other words: New Urbanism focuses on human-scaled urban design. Example of New urbanism are Tennessee, Florida, and Kent lands.
- Pertaning to the countryside regarding settled areas away from the influence of developed cities. Rural areas are places settled far away from the influence of developed countries. Example of this are farms, small towns.
