  • what was the slave trade?The Atlantic slave trade or transatlantic slave trade involved the transportation by slave traders of enslaved African people, mainly to the Americas. The outfitted European slave ships of the slave trade regularly used the triangular trade route and its Middle Passage, and existed from the 16th to the 19th centuries.
  • It is generally estimated that around twelve million African slaves crossed the Atlantic during the height of the African slave trade.
  • a major negative effect was depopulation. millions of Africans were captured and enslaved.many negative effects were placed on west africa including : social disruption, economic decline, loss of cultural heritage etc. the force removal of millions of people disrupted communities and led a long lasting consequences for the region.
