Welcome to ancient Rome! My name is Iris! What you see behind me is the Colosseum, which is one of the first stadiums ever! The Romans developed a wide spread use of concrete in building, which allowed this beauty to be built.
You can also see examples of Roman roads and aqueducts. The Romans set road construction 2,000 years in the future!
We use the aqueducts to bring water to the public fountains and baths. The aqueducts also bring water to the wealthy.
Rome was also one of the first for widespread use of the arch. We were also some of the first to use glass in domes and as windows. All in all, architecture was a pretty big asset of our culture.
Religion is a big part of our culture. Everybody, from rich to poor, attends religious festivals and gives offerings. We later adopted Christianity as the official religion.
We believed the gods controlled our lives, and we worshiped the emperor as a god.
As for Roman law and order, the way you were treated depended on if you were rich or poor
If you were poor, you would probably face a lot harsher punishments, including torture
If you were rich, the law was more likely to be lenient and you would face less harsh punishments.
Family life in Rome again depended on whether you were rich or poor.
If you were rich, only the men needed to work. Both poor and rich families were ruled by paterfamilias, but in rich households, women ran the house.
If you were poor, both men and women needed to work. Poor families typically didn't own slaves and didn't own property.
