- Today we are learning all about Clovis and Charlemagne!
- Clovis was a self-interested, cruel, and poor leader. Charlemagne was a great leader though. He achieved his goals in life and was crowned Holy Roman Emperor.
- Tell us more!
- Clovis's religious beliefs at first was to pray to idols of pagan gods for success in battle, but he kept loosing. He decided to start praying to the Christian God like his wife told him to. After he was winning battles.
- Charlemagne's beliefs were Christianity. One of his goal goals were to convert Germanic people in Christianity.
- Charlemagne's interaction with the Saxons was very brutal. 4,500 Saxons were beheaded by one day from Charlemagne's command.
- The relationship between Charlemagne and Pope Leo 111 wasn't the best but wasn't the worst. When Pope Leo 111 crowned him the Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne got very annoyed because he believed that God gave him the power not Pope Leo 111.
- Lastly Charlemagne educated his people by church. In church people were taught to obey him.
- That was fascinating!
