  • The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street Theme: Mankind is it's own worse enemy.
  • In The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street by Rod Sterling, One of the main themes is that Mankind is it's own worse enemy. I think this because in the story, many people in a neighborhood see a medeior come by in the sky,and the power went down before that and so because of this, everyone takes turns saying who they think is the alien or monster who caused all this or who is a part of those causes. A piece of evidence that supports the theme is that everyone keeps wasting time trying to figure out who did what and some wierd things some people did and how that could connect to them being and alien when they could have been talking to a police at the police department or calling friends for support. Even at the end, the aliens said how they only turned the power down for a couple of minuites and everyone causes drama and arguments that could ruin friendships becauase of it. Another scene is when everyone is so worked up about who's the monster when Pete Van Horn came to the group in the shadows, everyone thought he was the monster and shot him.. These are all reasons that support the theme: Mankind is it's own worse enimy.
