Storyboard Text

  • Exposition
  • She was a large woman with a large purse that had everything in it but hammer and nails. It had along strap, and she carried it slung across her shoulder. It was about eleven o’clock at night, and she was walking alone, when a boy ran up behind her and tried to snatch her purse...
  • Conflict
  • “Pick up my pocketbook, boy, and give it here.”
  • Rising Action
  • “No’m,”
  • Um-hum! And your face is dirty. I got a great mind to wash your face for you. Ain't you got nobody home to tell you to wash your face?”
  • “Then it will get washed this evening,”
  • At the beginning of the story, Mrs. Jones is coming home from work around 11 PM.
  • Climax
  • The door is open. I could make a dash for it down the hall. I could run, run, run, run, run!
  • Roger attempts to steal Mrs. Jones's purse but ends up breaking the strap and dropping it. Clearly, she notices it and demands him to pick it up.
  • Falling Action
  • Let me tell you about my job at the beauty salon...
  • Mrs. Jones notices Roger's face is dirty, so Mrs. Jones decides to take him home to clean it. When at her house, Roger explains that he wanted money to buy blue suede shoes.
  • Resolution
  • As Mrs. Jones is sitting on the day bed after Roger finishes washing his face, Roger is left with the decision to run out the door or stay.
  • Mrs. Jones tells Roger that she has done wrong things in her life as well. She leaves the room and prepares food for them to eat. Roger decides he doesn't want to be mistrusted by Mrs. Jones, so he sits where Mrs. Jones can see what he's doing. They eat and Mrs. Jones tells Roger about her job.
  • “I were young once and I wanted things I could not get.”
  • After eating and talking with Roger, Mrs. Jones gives him $10 to buy the shoes he wanted. Speechless, Roger decides to thank her but doesn't get the chance to. Then he leaves.
  • Good-night! Behave yourself, boy!”
