The Mayflower compact was a compact the Pilgrims signed aboard their ship. It was the first agreement for self-government to be created and enforced in America. On September 16, 1620 the Mayflower a British ship, with 102 passengers, who called themselves Pilgrims, aboard sailed from Plymouth, England. They were bound for the New World.
THE FIRST THANKSGIVING
During the first winter everything went downhill. Some of the pilgrims died from illness and hunger and a bad cold. The first winter was really bad but things got brighter.
Luckily, after their tragic winter, the Pilgrims meet a native American name Squanto who taught them how to fertile the ground, plant crops, catch local fish, grow corn, bean, and pumpkins. Squanto was also their translator and helped them create relationships with the local native American tribes. THANKS to Squanto.
After Squanto helped the pilgrims develop their knowledge of their new world, the Pilgrims decided that they would hold feast and celebrate with all of the Native Americans and give them thanks for all they've done for them. And so began the very first Thanksgiving.
