  • OH NO!
  • Well, primary succession is when a natural disaster happens just like how the volcano erupted and it makes it to where an ecosystem has no soil, it's just pure rock. This is the first level for the ecosystem to turn back into where it was before the eruption. Lichens will start to grow and then some producers will start to grow.
  • Don't worry the soil will come back even after this natural disaster. We're just in the primary succession stage right now.
  • OH NO! There's no more soil for plants to grow! There's only rocks! Whatever shall we do!
  • 10 DAYS LATER
  • What's that?
  • There's finally soil! The succession is done!
  • 1 MONTH LATER
  • Well yeah but I thought that was normal.
  • Not yet my furry friend. We're in the second level of succession. It's called secondary succession. Secondary succession is when there's soil but it has not yet hit the climax community. See how all the small trees, big trees, and bushes don't look that healthy how the ground isn't filled with grass.
  • Nope. The population in our ecosystem has decreased by a lot. The consumers like bears or birds might have migrated, died, or they're still probably hibernating to maintain their homeostasis.
  • SAME DAY ( continued conversation)
  • Yah there's no one here.
  • Well we still have to have sustainability in our community. If there were just primary consumers like ourselves than all the plants would disappear and then we would all die from the lack of food. We would also need natural disasters to weather rocks and minerals.
  • I wish there were no predators and no natural disasters around so all herbivores could live in no worries at all.
  • Well there's no biotic things here except the plants. Biotic means living organisms. Abiotic is the opposite of biotic which means it's non-living organisms.
  • SAME DAY ( continued conversation)
  • What does weathering mean?
  • The definition of weathering is to break down things.
  • Going back to what you had said about how you wish there were no predators. Well there also has to be biodiversity while the biome is going through ecological succession. Ecological succession is when an environment steadily and gradually changes in a species of a given area.
  • I can't believe this biome was created when it only started from rock and lichens.
  • 5 YEARS LATER
  • What's our biome name going to be?
  • There's actually one other thing. The thing is called the pioneer species. The pioneer species is a hardy species that are the first to colonize barren environments or previously biodiverse steady-state ecosystems that have been disrupted.
  • A forest.
