Its September 22, 2001. In a week 2 game between the Patriots and New York Jets in Foxboro stadium. Its late in the game and the Patriots have the ball around the 20 yard line with their star quarterback, Drew Bledsoe.
Im screwed I need to run out of bounds
Drew Bledsoe attempts to run out of bounds before the linebacker hits him, but he is still decked to the floor by the linebacker while he was running out of bounds. The staff and Tom Brady watch as he hits the floor with a sound that people watching say was the " the most violent hit they have ever seen."
His lungs and stomach is filled wth blood this is bad!
His season is over, the patriots are done!
On 3rd and 10, Drew snaps the ball and sees the Jets are blitzing ( sending players quickly to the quarterback ). The defenders are quickly getting past the blockers and drew is forced to make a decision.
This is my chance to prove myself
Tom is'nt going to be able to do this
Bledsoe decides to run right to the first down line. As he escapes the blitzing defenders, Jets linebacker, Mo Lewis, notices the quarterback running past the line of scrimmage and closes in on him.
The staff of the Patriots take Bledsoe to MGH in an ambulance, after an examination revealed an abnormally high heart rate, a decision that saves his life as he would have likely died if he was not rushed to the hospital. Bledsoe is ruled out for the season with Hemothorax, after a blood vessel in his heart popped and the blood pooled in his lungs and stomach. This left Tom Brady as the starter for the next few weeks, Tom would end up becoming the starter for the next 18 years.
Although he initially gets up and looks to be okay, Bill Belichick takes a precaution and sends Tom Brady to finish the game and replace Bledsoe for however long he would be out for. Bledsoe would never get to be the starting quarterback in New England again.
