  • The Sugar Act passed in April 5, 1764. The Sugar Actcut the duty on foreign molasses from 6 to 3 pence per gallon. It alsoretained a high duty on foreign refined sugar. It strengthened the enforcementof smuggling cases. Lastly, itwas a huge disruption to the Boston and New England economies because they used sugar and molasses to make rum, a main export in their trade with other countries.
  • Boston Massacre
  • The Stamp Act was passed in October 7, 1765. It required colonists to purchasespecial stamped paper for every legaldocument, license, newspaper,pamphlet, etc. It was made tohelp pay for British troops stationed in the colonies during the Seven Years' War.A majority considered it a violation of their rights as Englishmen to be taxed withouttheir consent.Their slogan was No taxation without representation.
  • Boston Tea Party
  • The Townshend Acts was passed on June 29, 1767. The Townshend act wasdesigned toraise revenue for the British Empire by taxing its North American colonies.Itinitiated taxes on glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea. The Americans were not represented in the British Parliament so they could not get a vote or a say in the voting.Riotous protest of the Townshend Acts in the colonies often invoked the phrase no taxation without representation.
  • Intolerable Acts
  • The Boston Massacre happened in March 5, 1770. A street fight occuredbetween a patriot mob, throwing snowballs, stones, and sticks, and a squad of British soldiers.The incidentfueled the anger of colonists like Samuel Adams and Paul RevereFive men were killed in the incident known as the Boston Massacre. They were used as propaganda against the British.
  • The Boston Tea Party was in December 16, 1773.The Boston Tea Party wasa political protest at Griffin's Wharf in Boston, Massachusetts.American colonists were frustrated and angry at Britain for imposing “taxation without representation. They proceeded todump 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor. The tea was imported by the British East India Company.
  • The Intolerable Acts was passed on May 20, 1774. The Boston Harbor was closed. Aseries of punitive laws passed by the British Parliament in 1774 after the Boston Tea Party. There wasa new Quartering Act that provided arrangements for housing British troops in American dwellings.Boston was put under martial law.
