  • Kansas-Nebraska Act/"Bleeding Kansas"May 30th, 1854
  • The compromise of 1850 had made California a free state, introduced the Fugitive Slave Act and the slave trade was abolished in Washington D.C. The Fugitive Slave Act had forced Northerners to return escaped slaves, natuarlly the northerners heavily disliked this act. Through the act tensions and hostility between the North and South grew slighty higher.
  • Dred Scott decision December 16th, 1773
  • I declare that black people aren't citizens of this nation
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin was a book published that informed and argued slavery was a genuine issue. The effect of the book was surprisingly huge, for it increased northerners to protest against the fugitive slave act and southerners to heavily condemn the book making the divsion of the North and South's ideals apparent.

  • The Kansas-Nebraska Act was set in place and had repealed the Missouri Compromise, made two new territories, and allowed popular soverighnty. The passing of the act had led to "Bleeding Kasnas" which was a line of hostile and tragic events taking place inlcuding the "Border Ruffians", "Sack of Lawrence", and "Pottawatomie Massacre". This had made the rivarly bewteen the North and Suth official.
  • Election of 1860November 6th, 1860
  • On Decemeber 16th, 1773, Dred Scott v. Sandford had taken place which was a courtcase where Dred Scott a former slave had belived he was a free person because he had lived in free territory. The decision that was made by the court was that Dred Scott and black people in general weren't citizens of the U.S, Scott was not a free man, and the Kansas-Nebraska was unconstitutional. At this point in time the North was seeing the active prevention of abolitionment of slavery from the Judicial side of things.
  • Harper's Ferry was when John Brown had led a group 21 people to take weapons from to slaves so they could fight and end slavery. Ultimately though, it was a massive failure with Brown being hanged for treason. This had Southerner's terrified though for they had thought that they had a grasp on the issue, and made the North a more confiden force.
  • In the election of 1860, Abraham Lincoln was voted into as the 16th president of the United States. Lincoln is the driving force for the Abolishment of slavery and had started the civil war.
