Montgomery Bus Boycott- December 5, 1955
Brown v. Board of Education- May 17, 1954
In the 1950's schools were still segregated so this was taken up with the Supreme Court for it to be rectified. The Supreme Court would state that separate schooling facilities were unconstitutional and a violation of the 14th Amendment. This would result in integration within school districts so white and blacks were no longer separated.
One day a woman named Rosa Parks refused to get out of her designated bus seat for a white passenger. She was jailed and as a result a civil rights protest was led by Martin Luther King Jr. Many African Americans refused to ride the buses for 381 days and walked as a way of commute.
In Little Rock, Arkansas nine African American students had volunteered to integrate Central High School under the watch of soldiers by Eisenhower. There would be a crowd of whites outside of the school threatening the students and trying to harm them despite the National Guards being there.
