  • The sugar Act of 1764 was a law put in force by Britain to increase British revenues by stopping the smuggling of molasses into the American colonies. Prime Minister George Grenville proposed the Sugar Act as a way for Britain to gain revenue to protect it's Foreign colonies. In the American colonies the Sugar Act was very harmful to merchants and consumers in the New England seaports. The act also restricted the export of certain highly demanded goods such as lumber and iron. The Sugar Act amended the Molasses Act of 1733 which actually reduces revenues by encouraged smuggling.
  • Boston Massacre
  • The stamp Act of 1765 was a law the British Parliament passed to help pay for the British troops who were stationed in the colonies during the Seven Years War. The act required a tax on all papers and official documents in the American colonies. The documents were bonds, licenses, certificates and other official documents. Americans were angered by the act because of the colonies distance from London. This resulted in the colonists simply refusing to pay the Stamp Act tax.
  • Boston Tea Party
  • The Townshend Acts were passed by the British Parliament in 1767 that taxed goods imported into the American colonies. The indirect taxes were on goods such as glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea. American colonists who didn't have representation in parliament saw the Acts as an abuse of power. The colonial response was No taxation without representation. The British sent troops to America to enforce the laws which resulted in higher tensions between Britain and American colonies.
  • Intolerable Acts
  • On March 5, 1770 a fight occurred between the British soldiers and colonists. British troops were stationed in Boston aiming to blow against the colonists. The colonists were mad about being unfairly taxed which resulted in them taking their anger out on the British troops. British troops fired upon the mob of colonists who were throwing snowballs. The Boston Massacre began as a street brawl then escalated to a bloody slaughter.
  • The Boston Tea Party was a political protest that happened in December 1773. The American colonists were mad at Britain for imposing taxation without representation. Britain was in dept so the British Parliament imposed a series of taxes on the colonists to help pay the debts.The colonists dumped over 330 chests of tea imported by the British East India company into the harbor. The British passed the Intolerable Acts which punished Massachusetts.
  • The Intolerable Acts were a series of laws passed by the British parliament in 1774. The laws aimed to punish the colonists for how they acted during the Tea Party protest of the Tea Act. The Britishdressed as Native Americans and dumped 18,000 pounds of tea into Boston Harbor. This resulted in the Boston Harbor being closed which made the colonists mad because now they can't import any goods. Boston was put under material law meaning they were ruled by military force.
