  • Women from Paris led this march on October 5, 1789. It was started due to the high price of bread and eventually forced the royals to return to Paris.

  • The Declaration of the Rights of Man created individual and collective rights for people of France. It gave citizens equal justice, freedom of speech, and freedom of religion. The slogan Liberty, Equality, fraternity was also created.

  • The Reign of Terror was a period of mass executions in France. The leader during this time was Maximilian Robespierre and he executed as many as 40,000 people during this"Reign of Terror".

  • King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were both executed for treason. On January 21 King Louis XVI was executed by guillotine, and on October 16 Marie Antoinette was also executed by guillotine.
  • Napoleon started out as a successful military officer. He then assumed powers of a dictator and took the title of first council. He also introduced Napoleonic code to give France a uniform set of laws.
  • Napoleons empire kept getting weaker as he was having troubles with war. Napoleon was first exiled to Elba but when he escaped and returned to Paris he started the "Hundred Days" and battle of Waterloo. When Napoleon was defeated by the British and Prussian armies his reign was over and he was exiled to Saint Helena for good.
