- Once upon a time there was a kingdom named Gandhara who was ruled by a just king named Vindhyara. The king was sad as he had no successor to take over his thrown after him . So he decided to choose a person who will become the king after him from his kingdom . The king in that kindom was fond of gardening
- He sent his messengers far and wide to distribute boiled beans to all the people . He also asked the messengers to tell people to grow these beans n two months .
- In that kingdom there was a poor farmer named Pingala . He had also got the beans and took care of the plants .
- Pingala tried everything to make the plant grow .But it was all in vain
- King checked everyone's pot . When it was Pingala's turn , king was shocked to see his empty pot .
- Pingala said that he had tried his best but couldn't grow the seed
- King asked " why his pot was empty "
