  • This was when Thomas Gallaudet came home and met Alice. Here, he taught her how to spell the word "hat" in the sand. This was the start to it all!
  • Hi Alice, my name is Thomas. This is a hat, H-A-T
  • Thomas, how would you feel about talking to my friends about setting up a school for the deaf? We would ask them to help with the funds!
  • This was when Dr. Cogswell asked Gallaudet to talk to his friends to try to set up a school for the deaf in America.
  • This was when Gallaudet was on his way to Europe to learn more about ASL and how to teach!!
  • On my way to Europe to learn!!!
  • This was when Gallaudet went to the town meeting, met Clerc and then Clerc invited him to go back to Pairs with him and study sign language there.
  • Wow! I Clerc and he asked to come to Pairs with him to study sign language!I can't believe I'm in Paris.
  • Going back to America to help the deaf children! I'm excited!:)
  • This was after Clerc and Gallaudet talked things over and decided to head to America. On the ride over there, Clerc and Gallaudet would teach each other each of their languages.
  • On April 15th, 1817, the first school for the deaf was established in Hartford, Connecticut. Gallaudet, Clerc, and Cogswell did it!!
  • Wow, this finally happened. We made it so far!! Now deaf people in America can have the education they deserve.
