- During the medieval times, the medieval pope enjoyed a position of supreme power and was even more powerful than medieval kings. He could issue orders to the medieval kings and excommunicate them from the Church.

- Martin Luther created the 95 theses, which sparked the Protestant Reformation. His central beliefs were that the Bible is the central religious authority and that humans may reach salvation only by their faith and not by their deeds.
