- Merrylegs that is very rude to talk about me behind my back. That colt stole my box space.
- Hello, my name is Merrylegs. I'm a handsome pony and I carry the young ladies on my back. Over there is Ginger, she's very snappy and mean.
- Black Beauty's mom tells him never to kick people or bite and always have good manners.
- He ruined me. But does he deserve to die?
- A couple years later Black Beauty has been broken in and is sold to a man named Squire Gordon.
- I'm Captain, and I've been in a war. Jerry will take care of us very well. He is a nice man.
- Black Beauty meets Ginger and Merrylegs and they become fast friends. Ginger at first is very mean and bites.
- Beauty is sold to a man named York White with Ginger and a man named Rueben ruins his knees so he is sold.
- Beauty is sold to a man named Jerry Barker. He lives with Jerry, his family and another horse Captain for three years until Jerry is sick then is sold again. He is sold to three women and is never sold again.
