- Slide: 1
- Sampson and Gregory find Abram and another servant in the street, and decide to bite their thumb at his as a sign of disrespect. This starts a huge fight in the streets with servants everywhere joining in. Benvolio sees the fight and attempts to break it up using his sword, but ends up getting in a fight with Tybalt instead. The fight finally ends when the Prince comes into the street and ridicules them.

- The valiant Paris wants to marry you- He will be there at the ball tonight
- I'll look at him and try to like him, at least if what I seethan your permission allows.
- You must start thinking about marriage!
- Act 1, scene 3
- Juliet, the nurse, and Lady Capulet are getting ready for the ball later, when the nurse and Lady Capulet bring up the fact that Juliet hasn't been married yet, and how at her age other girls have already had kids. They then bring up Paris, a suitor, and Juliet doesn't seem too interested. She also makes it clear she isn't interested in marriage when she says , 'It is an honor that I do not dream of.'

- Good pilgrim, you don't give your hand enough credit. By holding my hand you show polite devotion. After all, pilgrims touch the hands of statues of saints. Holding one palm against another is like a kiss.
- let lips do what hands do. I'm praying for you to kiss me. Please grant my prayer so my faith doesn't turn to despair.
- Act 1, scene 5
- Romeo and Juliet both attend the same party without knowing each other or what families they come from. They meet at the ball and share their first kiss here. Shortly after this, they discover that they're from enemy families.
