The ship shores in the land of the Lotus-eaters. Some of Odysseus' men chewed the lotus plant, a calming narcotic, that convinced them to stay on the island of the Lotus-eaters. Odysseus would not leave them behind, so he forcibly had them returned to the ship.
When the party landed on the shores of the Cyclopseans, The men were skeptical and thought it wise to leave, but Odysseus wanted to speak with one of them, and so he brought a group of his crew with him, and they walked to the Cyclops' home. They brought wine to offer as a gift for the Cyclops
Upon entrance, they saw sheep herded in the cave, and crates full of goods, the crew suggested taking the plunder and returning to the ship, but Odysseus went against their wishes again. When the Cyclops arrived back at his dwelling, he found Odysseus' men, he trapped them, and devoured a great deal of them
Odysseus told the Cyclops his name was Noman, and gave him wine to loosen the Cyclops' nerves. When the Cyclops fell asleep, Odysseus gathered his men, and had them heat a large stake. Then, once in was glowing red, they plunged it into the Cyclops' eye to blind him
The crew tied themselves to the bottom of the sheep that dwelt within the cave, this way, when the Cyclops went out to graze his flock, the men could escape undetected. As such happened, The vanguard reunited with those who remained at the ship, and they spoke of the men who had been eaten
Odysseus began to taunt the Cyclops. His men asked him to stop, but he ignored them once again. When Odysseus reveals his true name. the Cyclops begs him to come back, this way he can make amends between Poseidon and Odysseus. Odysseus declines, and the Cyclops throws a boulder, missing their boat. The Cyclops curses Odysseus in the name of Poseidon that he will return home alone.
