A democracy is a type of government that allows people to vote and have an opinion
There are 2 types of democracy, one is representative or republic which is when people vote on other people to make the laws for them. This is what we have in the US we vote on people 1 day every 4 years. People who are citizens and over 18 can participate by voting. We can give our opinion by sending emails to our government asking for laws and saying why those laws might be good. We also have freedom of speech which allows us to voice our opinion on Tv and social media.
The other type of democracy is a Direct democracy. A direct democracy is when people vote on all laws.
Ancient Athens highly influenced us. Due to them having the first democracy we soon started copying their democracy and the architecture. Rome also influenced our decision for a democracy. Rome's democracy consists of 3 groups/branches. The US also consists of 3 branches, we most likely got this from Rome.
We should have a government where everyone can have an opinion!
