- Stella makes it her obligation to not tell her family the truth about her past life. "Gone, My family's gone"(Bennett, 171). Stella feels it is right to lie to her daughter, and the rest of the world, that her family died.

- Stella has come to terms with a lot of things in her life, but she cannot accept the fact that jude is who she says she is. "No no no, I dont understand. Who are you really? You look nothing like her(Bennett 278). Stella was appalled looking at jude and after hearing what this girl knows she can't believe whats happening and don't know how to feel.

- Growing up Stella was one of the smartest people, But leaving Mallard caused her to dropout and she's never been challenged since until, she tries to get her G.E.D."This is what she loved about math: it was the same now as it had been then, and there was always a correct answer whether she knew it or not(Bennett 249). No matter the mistakes stella has made, she's still smart, and she loves to learn. thats the little chareristic that people don't see in her.
