- Here my dad is not being allowed on the bus because of his race therefore his Equality Rights are being violated. These are also known as his Section 15 Charter Rights.
- Sorry Sir, I can not let you on my bus.
- Why not? I did not do anything wrong!
- Sir, you know why. Just please take another bus.
- I just do not want to make anyone uncomfortable on my bus.
- And how would that happen?
- My parents moved to Canada from India almost 17 years ago, right before my sister was born. They came here to give my siblings a better life! But everything has not been that easy.
- My family and I have had a very good life in Canada! But, unfortunately over the years we have experienced discrimination many times.
- Here, my mom was taken away her Fundamental Freedom of Religion. This is where her Section 2 Charter Rights were violated ( I learnt this in school! ).
- But, that's not fair! My religion should not influence your decision to hire me!
- I would love to give you this job! You have all the certifications and credentials. But, we have a little issue. You are not going to be able to wear your hijab in the office. We like to have a neutral environment!
- Hey! Can I sit with you guys?
- Yes I am! I was born in Canada like all of you!
- On this day, my brothers' Equality Rights were violated. Even though he was born in Canada, kids in his class discriminated against him because of his race! This is a violation of his Section 15 rights!
- Nope! The table is full.
- Well, not exactly. We just don't want you to sit with us because you know, you're not from here.
- Even though my family has come across many obstacles in our lives, we have been able to overcome them each time! They just make us stronger! Everyone in Canada deserves the right to equality and freedom!
