  • Fossil fuels are nonrenewable energy sources that pollute the environment because they are burned and release toxic chemicals. Fossil fuels also are responsible for a major role in the problem of global warming and they will not last forever.
  • Hydropower is the solution and is a renewable energy source for our future. It is energy coming from the movement of water
  • First, compared to fossil fuels and other options for renewable energy, hydropower is the cleanest renewable energy source.
  • This is because hydropower emits no CO2 or any pollutant in the air since the power comes from moving water.
  • Hydropower is also a cheap way of generating energy once the dam sites are built.
  • Hydropower is cheap and around the same cost per kilowatt hour like coal. It costs about 85 cents per kilowatt-hour.
  • Hydropower can help environmental issues such as flooding and also benefits the public.
  • Hydropower needs dams to generate energy and the dams will help flood control. Also, the public benefits would be irrigation for the farmers and water supply for the people.
  • Some people argue that hydropower is not environmentally friendly because it destroys habitats and has negative impacts towards the river ecosystem.
  • But, when comparing the pros to the cons, hydropower’s positives outweigh its negatives by a large margin. Although it isn’t environmental-friendly, it is the best solution to replace fossil fuels. Also, we can safely relocate the endangered fish and animals that are affected by the dam.
  • Hydropower has more potential than any other renewable energy source.
  • The energy is also plentiful. Water can be reused so hydro-powered energy is unlimited!
