  • OMGGGGGG!
  • We're finally here!
  • What does the Senate do?
  • The Senate approves all treaties and appointments within the house. They also chose the Vice President if there is a tie in the Electoral College. The Senate also serves as the jury in a trial of impeachment.
  • What does the House of Representatives do?
  • The H.O.R covers all bills involving appropriations (or money). They also select the president if there is a tie in the Electoral College. The H.O.R also writes the article of impeachment against the official and provide the info on the case.
  • What can both houses do?
  • Both houses keep records on their house. They also start their sessions on January 3rd. In both houses in order to vote on a bill 51% of the members have to be present. The houses can also override a veto if 2/3 of the Congress agree on the law.
  • Who is the head of each house? I thought that the head of the H.O.R was the Vice President.
  • Actually the head of H.O.R is the Speaker of the House. The S.O.H is elected by the majority party. In the Senate the head is the VP but when he/she doesn't show the head is the President Pro Tempore. The P.P.T is elected based off of the majority party and how long that member has served in the Senate.
  • Wow! I get it now. The Congress consists of 2 houses the H.O.R and the Senate. Both houses have their own powers and responsibilities. Some responsibilities are shared between both houses. Without Congress bills cannot turn into law.
  • Exactly! Now you know all about Congress.
