  • African elephants play the crucial role of maintaining balance in their ecosystem, they maintain the vegetation by uprooting trees and clearing up grass lands.
  • This is the African Elephant, they are found in savannah grasslands, woodlands, and forest across Africa. They have a huge role in this ecosystem they are a key stone species ( no other species would be able to fill its role)
  • One of the most notable adaptations of African elephants is their long trunks, which are used for many purposes, including grasping food, drinking water and communication. They also have large ears that help regulate their body temputure and detect distant sounds, their trunks are used for defense, digging and foraging.
  • The evolution of African elephants can be traced back to their ancestors 55 million years ago, which were much smaller and lived in forest, they evolved to become larger and adapted to living in the open.
  • African elephants have perfectly adapted to their environment, in several ways. Their size and strength, coupled with their long trunks and tusks, make them formidable animals that can defend themselves agianst predators.
  • They have acsess to food and water sources in their environment. They have also devoloped very well social structures that allow them to live in huge groups and communicate effectivly with eachother. Their ability to modify their enviroment by uprooting trees and clearing up grasslands allows them to create new habitats for other species.
