- What kind of person are they?
- Desiree was classified as selfish, "Desiree seem like the type to take in no orphan to you?" Of course she didn't. She was a selfish girl" (Bennet 4). Image and first impression are key and it shows how strong and good your character is. The towns perception of Desiree shows her character and how she is viewed as selfish in her adolescent years.

- What does the character look like?
- The Vignes sisters are identical twins and both Stella and Desiree can be described as "Twin girls, creamy skin, hazel eyes, wavy" (Bennet 7) Desiree is a black woman who could've passed as white due to her light completion and light brown eyes. This description is one of the only physical description given about the girls throughout the story.

- Where have they been / Where are they going
- Desiree kept at her attempts to convince Stella to join her in her plan to run away, "Maybe, practical as she was, Stella recognized that they could earn more money in New Orleans, send it home and help Mama better that way... All that mattered was that Stella finally said,"Okay" (Bennet 16). Here Stella agrees to go to New Orleans with Desiree in an attempt to create a better life for themselves and their mother.
