Vast Traveler
"We need to leave. Now!"
Right away, Odysseus was born into the thrown. This contributes to a lot of characteristics he shows in book 9 because he knows what it's like to hold power and feel important. If he hadn't been king, I don't think he would be as self-assured. (Homer, 1110)
Unmatched Warrior
Odysseus is definitely has qualities of greatness in Book 9. Not only is he super brave while handling the cyclops, but he gets his men out of many deadly situations with his wisdom and strength. He may be a little bit overconfident in his abilities, but he still manages to escape. (Homer,1114)
Battles Supernatural Forces
"My dad Poseidon will make Odysseus have a terrible, long and painful journey home."
Odysseus travels to several places in just Book 9. They start their journey after the war at Troy and move on to the Land of the Lotus eaters where they are tricked into never wanting to leave. When they leave, they land on the land of the Cyclops where most of the story takes place. They have an epic battle and escape to the waters again. (Homer,1112)
Odysseus is established as a warrior before book 9 even begins. He originally proves he is a great warrior at the battle of Troy where he leads his army to victory, and they choose to continue following him. If he hadn't won that war and escaped several places, the men wouldn't continue to follow him. (Homer,1104)
Odysseus battles supernatural forces when he challenges the Cyclops. The Cyclops has Poseidon on his side, so when Odysseus challenges him, he is really challenging a god who will make his journey across the sea extremely difficult. (Homer,1116)
