Storyboard Text

  • Mr. Chiu and his wife have just returned from their honeymoon, a trip that Mr. Chiu is thankful to have concluded, and they are eating in the square at Muji Train Station before Mr. Chiu had to head to work at Harbin University. In this environment, the police have a lot of power that they usually abuse, like in this case when a policeman throws a bowl of tea at Mr. Chiu and his wife, soaking their feet.
  • "Lie, lie!"
  • Mr. Chiu gets sent to jail after trying to stand up to the policeman in the square. He's feeling frustrated from his unjustified arrest and ill from his hepatitis, especially since the police have refused to provide him with medication. He instructed his wife to send someone to get him out, so now he must wait. Although he is sick and refused medicine, he is more focused and concerned with the fact that he is missing work and not that he is in danger and away from his wife.
  • As an attempt to intimidate and anger Mr. Chiu, the police tie up and practically torture his old student, Fenjin, who came to help free Mr. Chiu, but is not very capable to do so. The police knew that this would manipulate Mr. Chiu into doing what they wanted; giving up and admitting he is guilty for their misbehavior.
  • 800 PEOPLE SICK WITH HEPATITIS AND 6 DEAD IN MUJI
  • The tactic of torturing Fenjin worked, as Mr. Chiu could not bare to let him endure so much pain on his behalf or allow the authorities to take so much pleasure in Fenjin's pain, and Mr. Chiu signed a statement that he was responsible for his own arrest. After signing, he was released.
  • Consumed with anger and severe pain from his hepatitis, Mr. Chiu goes around to many different restaurants near the police station and only orders a bowl or two of food and just eats a little. Fenjin is confused as to why he is doing this, but ultimately, Mr. Chiu is so angry with the lies he had to tell and the interruption of his everyday life that he wants to spread hepatitis to the area as a form of revenge.
  • As a result of Mr. Chiu's germ- spreading feast, there is a hepatitis outbreak in Muji that infects 800 people and killed 6. This is a defining detail because it shows the significance of the pattern of hepatitis, and at the beginning, Mr. Chiu accuses the policeman of being the saboteur and disrupting the public by misdirecting his anger and power, but in the end Mr. Chiu is no better by sabotaging Muji and misdirecting his anger and power to affect innocent people of Muji. Mr. Chiu's hepatitis keeps coming up throughout the story, and his symptoms worsen as his anger increases to show how when he eventually reaches his breaking point of anger, hepatitis will become more impactful.
