The Knife of Never Letting Go
Storyboard Text
- Viola,Todd and Manchee needed water and food urgently. Their rations were decreasing with every meal. They needed to find an abode inhabited by welcoming humans very soon, or face being caught by the Prentisstown army that were fast approaching.
- We will reach a town soon, I promise!
- Food, water... something!
- Not long after, the trio stumbled across a sight that Todd knew wasn't a good sign. An alien-like creature who's kind has troubled Prentisstown, his home, for many years.
- Danger, Todd! Danger!
- Todd, what is that?
- Is that... Is that a spackle?
- All of a sudden, Todd was gripped by anger. He had remembered what had happened. Not only had this monstrosity caused panic among his village, his kind had caused grief in Todd's very own family. They had slaughtered his mother.
- Kill Todd!
- I'm gonna kill him. I am going to kill him!
- Don't hurt him! He looks petrified!
- Todd was incensed. He was not backing down. Nothing would stop him from his delirious actions. His inner devil had taken the driver's seat. He knew that this time he would prove all his doubters from Prentisstown wrong. He would show them he was a man.
- You murderer! My family suffered because of you!
- Viola rushed towards Todd. She would not let him murder the Spackle. Having arrived from the extraterrestrial world, she was oblivious all the damage the Spackle genus had caused to Todd's home. However, by the time Todd had shrugged his comrade, Viola, off his shoulders, the spackle had skittled. Was this it? Would Todd kill the spackle?
- No! He's weak. He doesn't want to harm you. Can you not see the fright on his face?
- Seconds after the spackle had taken its its last breath, Todd Hewitt came back to reality. Yes he was a man now, but he was feeling sick. Viola was in dismay at Todd's violent response while Manchee barked his head off. They were all so agitated they did not notice Aaron approaching from behind.
- Aaron was armed. Todd, having been reminiscing over his actions, was not paying attention to his surroundings. When he saw Aaron, he realised that he needed to act. But his knife was stuck in the Spackle's back. By the time he got there and back, Aaron was onto him.
- Todd, Aaron's coming for you!
- Aaron thrust his knife into Todd. He felt a short burst of pain, like his midriff had just been burned, then fainted. Aaron handcuffed the shrieking Viola and kicked Manchee, who was barking at his heels. Viola made a gallant effort to escape but could not succeed. Aaron placed a sack over her head and took her away.
- It's over Todd, I've finally got you!
- When Todd arose a few hours later, he was greeted by several bursts of pain in his legs. He winced as he removed the knife from his left thigh. It was only after sitting up the pain eased a little. He came back to his senses. A huge task lay ahead. He needed to save Viola from Aaron and carry on searching for Haven. It was going to be a long haul.
- Arghhhh!
- Todd! Hurt! Knife Todd!
