During Troy and Cory arguing, Cory says, " Come on Pop! I got to practice. I can't work after school and play football too" (Wilson 38). Cory said this because of stress. Cory loves football and would rather follow his dreams then work endlessly. His Father feels differently about the situation. Troy believes football will get his son nowhere in life.

During an argument between Troy and Rose, Rose explains that,"I done tried to be everything a wife should be. Everything a wife could be. Been married eighteen years and I got to live to see the day you tell me you been seeing another woman and done fathered a child by her (Wilson 65). This shows us how Rose truly feels about Troy's actions. Troy goes off and has a chilled with another woman. Rose is outstanded about his actions, Rose explains how she has built a life with Troy as his wife for eighteen years, just to be betrayed and cheated on.

After Troy's argument with Rose, another argument arises between Cory and Troy because, "Go on and get away from around my house" (Wilson 82). Before this conflict started Cory was upset with how he treated his mother. The conflict got so bad they threatened each other with a bat. This ended in Troy kicking his son out the house.
