  • welcome to the history of the cell!I am your guide today
  • Our story begins with a man named Robert Hook in the 17th century, he was a very smart man and one day he decided to look at a piece of cork under a microscope, he saw that it was filled with little holes that he decided to call cells because they looked like the rooms monks would live in.
  • it looks like the rooms in a monastery!!
  • We continue our story with another man named Anton Van Leeuwenhoek, he created a microscope that could magnify 270 times! He then went on to discover single cell organisms and helped create the field of microbiology.
  • After 200 years the next big breakthrough happened, this was discovered by Matthias Schleiden who was orriginally a lawer, he discovered that cells make up all plants and have there own structure. He also found out that the nucleus is the 'brain' of a cell.
  • A German scientist by the name of Theodor Swann added on to Scheidens discovery by proving that all animals are made of cells as well, this was when the idea that everything was made of cells really took off.
  • its the same!
  • Last but not least we have Rudolf Virchow, Virchow discovered that cells don't appear out of nowhere as was thought, they instead split and form new cells by themselves. With that we have come to the end of this brief overview of cell history, thank you for joining me and goodbye.
