Haemon explains how Antigone would make a good wife but Creon is too upset about his son disagreeing with him to listen.
Shameless, at open feud with thy father!
O dastard nature, yielding place to woman!
Do I offend, when I respect mine own prerogatives?
Nay, I see thee offending against justice.
Thou dost not respect them, when thou tramples on the gods' honors,
Thou wilt never find me yield to baseness.
Creon finally listens and realizes Haemon is in love and tells him he needs to have more loyalty to his father and his laws.
All thy words, at least, plead for that girl.
Thou canst never marry her, on this side the grave.
And for thee, and for me, and for the gods below.
Then she must die, and in death destroy another
Haemon next says that if Antigone were to perish he would kill himself as well because there is no life in this world without her.
How! doth thy boldness run to open threats?
Thou shalt rue thy witless teaching of wisdom
What threat is it, to combat vain resolves?
Wert thou not my father, I would have called thee unwise.
