- Josef's dad jumps off the boat
- Ill save you sir!
- Let me die! Leave me out here!
- Someone please save my dad!
- Isabel's family isn't allowed into the Bahamas
- You have two options. Either we care for them and send you and your family back to Cuba, or you continue on your trip.
- But please, both my parents are ill.
- Mahmoud's mom gives away her baby
- There's no room! We will take the baby though.
- Please help us!
- Josef's dad has been very sick in the book and has been asleep all day. Josef's mother also was very sleepy because she took some medicine that she couldn't resist falling asleep. Therefore Josef was left alone to take care of his sister who had been away swimming. Josef decided it was time to go get her and when he came back his dad left the room. He searched around all over for him until he heard alarms and looked in the water to find his dad. His dad was saved though by one of the crewmates.
- Isabel's family has been on a boat trying to get to Florida coming from Cuba. Her father fell off of the boat and into the water and became very ill from it. Her mother is also pregnant and is becoming very ill. The family were rowing one day and saw the coast of an island and decided to go to it. When they got there, they were treated with many cheers from the people on shore but when they were ready to get out, coast guards said they weren't allowed to enter. They decided it was best to leave but before departing, many people gave them food, water, and medicine for their journey.
- Mahmoud and his family were on a ship somewhere in the Meridian Sea, when it crashed and sunk. All the passengers jumped into the Sea but there were some ships trying to help them. There was one that came over to Mahmoud, his mom, and his baby sister. It was very crowded and when they asked for people to make room they said no. However, they did take the baby but left Mahmoud and his mom in the water.
