The mother in this scene had had enough of fighting with her daughter. She reluctantly agrees to let her daughter go on an independent trip. Until she has to leave, all she can say is love and comfort/care for her. She gives her clothes, which she then packs in her luggage.
"it is a scarf for your head, to wearover your hair, to tie up around your face, I love you"
In this scene, the mother is sad that her daughter is very excited about going on a trip alone, that she is discussing how excited she is with her friends. She is watching how happy her daughter is, and she is happy that she is happy, but it still hurts.
