  • Dragon Hoops is not just about basketball, but it also reveals culture conflicts and identity crises through the background stories of the players. Jeevin and Alex come from cultures that are very different from the average Amercans, but they’ve both prevailed over challenges for the dream of basketball.
  • Being the only Sikh at a Catholic public school and on the team, Jeevin often faces racism and exclusion from the others.
  • After reading Dragon Hoops, I still feel impressed and empty. I feel as if I were an assistant coach who had been with the team all along.

  • Among the O'Dowd boys, two players particularly stood out to me.
  • From my own experiences, this usually reflects the attacker's fear of the victim, where the attacker feels the need to put others down to feel more superior. Ironically, these people are often the inferior ones.

  • Born in Beijing, China, Qianjun ("Alex") gave up the life he had and followed his basketball dream to America.

  • Who finds himself sitting on a bench throughout most of his first and only season on O'Dowd's men's varsity basketball team.
