  • Sheriff Angel Garcia was born in 1978 in a Texas town to Mexican-American immigrants who instilled in him a strong work-ethic and a duty to the community. He wanted to make a positive impact so he studied for a Bachelors in Criminal Justice after highschool before graduating from the Police Academy in 2000.
  • Garcia was first assigned as a Patrol Officer in the town where he grew up. Even in the early years of his career he demonstrated dedication and respectability. He committed to an approachable demeanor and maintained friendly relations with residents of the community

  • In 2007, Garcia began to take on detective assignments. His investigative skills and ability to solve cases earned him recognition and respect among his colleagues and community. Garcia also received specialized training in community policing, as well as crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques. He actively participated in community outreach programs to gain a deeper understanding of issues affecting the community.
  • Garcia took on supervisory roles within the police department, contributing to positive and efficient work environment. As he climbed the ranks, he continued his education, attending leadership and management courses to enhance his administrative skills.In 2014, Angel completed his Master's in Public Administration. By 2016, he had risen to the rank of captain within the police department. During this time, he continued to focus on fostering community trust and implementing progressive policies to improve the overall effectiveness of law enforcement.

  • Years later, when the county Sheriff position became vacant, Garcia decided to run for election, recognizing his experience, education, track record and commitment to the community. Running on a campaign platform of modernizing law enforcement practices, community collaboration, and transparency, Angel Garcia is elected Sheriff in 2024, as first Mexican-American Sheriff in his county.
  • Sheriff Garcia carries out all the regular duties of a Texas County Sheriff. One example is Supervising the county jail. This includes scheduling, training,inmate management and implementing reentry programs
  • Another regular activity is providing Court security. This involves screening individuals who enter the court for potential weapons. Sheriff Garcia and deputies maintain a presence in the court to ensure security and address disturbances while protecting witnesses
  • Sheriff Garcia is also responsible for enforcing court orders, such as evictions. Garcia oversees the process of physically removing a tenant and their belongings from the property. Sheriffs are responsible for de-escalating tension in these situations and maintaining peace
